Before founding the charity, I spent my career as a Registered Nurse before moving into healthcare regulation. Today, I work as a Clinical Lead, where I’ve dedicated my professional life to improving the quality and safety of healthcare services.
After years of living with a Functional Biliary Disorder, I experienced first hand how frightening, isolating and misunderstood these conditions can be. Like so many others, I endured severe pain, repeated hospital admissions, uncertainty and the emotional impact of living with a condition that many people, including healthcare professionals, know very little about.
When access to the treatment that had transformed my life was unexpectedly withdrawn, I refused to accept that patients should simply be left without hope. What began as a personal fight quickly became a national patient campaign, bringing together patients, clinicians and healthcare leaders to work towards restoring access to treatment and improving care.
Throughout that journey, something incredible happened. Complete strangers became friends, friends became family, and a community was created that none of us ever expected.
It became clear that our work couldn’t stop there.
The Functional Biliary Disorder Foundation UK was born from the belief that nobody living with these conditions should ever feel alone, unheard or forgotten. Our mission is to provide trusted information, education, support and advocacy while raising awareness, encouraging research and working alongside healthcare professionals to improve diagnosis, treatment and long term outcomes.
Although I founded the charity, this has never been about one person. It belongs to every patient who has shared their story, every family member who has stood beside a loved one, every clinician who has listened, and every volunteer who has given their time to make a difference. I truly believe that by combining lived experience with clinical expertise, we can create lasting change for future generations.
